WASHINGTON – A new study found that counterfeit fashion and footwear products entering the US market contained potentially dangerous levels of arsenic, cadmium, phthalates and lead. Of 47 counterfeits checked by testing giant Intertek, 17 (36.2 per cent) failed to comply with US product safety standards. The study was commissioned by the American Apparel & Footwear Association.
