COPENHAGEN – Danish traceability company Spoor, part of Scan-Hide, has partnered with the international Oeko-Tex Association to introduce full farm-to-product traceability for leather hides. The collaboration aims to improve transparency in the leather industry by enabling brands and consumers to verify the origins of leather products, from the individual animal farm through the tanning process to the final product.
Spoor’s tracking technology allows each hide to be traced throughout its entire lifecycle. This data is digitised within the Oeko-Tex Label Check system, making it accessible for consumers to verify sourcing and production details.
As part of the Oeko-Tex Made in Green certification, all production facilities involved must also meet environmental, chemical management, and social responsibility standards.
The initiative is intended to provide more visibility into the supply chain while promoting responsible sourcing practices.
Traceability has become an increasing focus in the fashion sector, driven by growing consumer demand for transparency and ethical production. In recent years, brands have faced pressure to disclose where and how their materials are sourced, particularly in industries with complex supply chains such as leather and textiles.
Advances in digital tracking technologies have made it possible to verify material origins, helping companies respond to regulatory requirements and sustainability concerns.
By integrating traceability with certification standards, the Spoor and Oeko-Tex partnership reflects a broader shift towards accountability in fashion supply chains.
The initiative is part of wider efforts within the leather industry to provide clearer information on sourcing and production, as traceability becomes an increasingly important tool for assessing sustainability claims.
