France’s textile recycling sector in public row

PARIS – A public dispute has broken out in France between Refashion, the official textile eco-body, and Le Relais, the country’s largest textile recycling operator.

On 15 July, Le Relais dumped tonnes of used clothing outside major retailers across France, including Kiabi and Decathlon. It also announced a suspension of its collection activities. The actions were designed to draw attention to what the organisation described as a funding crisis threatening the future of the entire sector.
