HENAN – China has opened what is claimed to be the world’s first industrial-scale facility producing regenerated cellulose fibres using ionic liquids. This solvent system has long been touted as a cleaner alternative to conventional viscose and lyocell processes.
The plant, located in Henan province and developed by the Institute of Process Engineering (IPE) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has a stated capacity of 1,000 tonnes per year.
