DHAKA – Global fashion brands and trade unions have agreed a two-year extension of the work of the Bangladesh Accord which governs garment factory safety. As part of the agreement, the principles of the Accord’s unique binding safety agreement will now also be expended to other textile sourcing hubs, with the goal being to extend the garment factory safety work to at least one other country in the next two years.

The International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry preserves and extends the work of the Bangladesh Accord for protecting worker safety. As well as backing by brands and unions, the agreement – which will also see the work of the Bangladesh Accord extended for two years – has also been signed by Clean Clothes Campaign, Worker Rights Consortium, Maquila Solidarity Network, and Global Labor Justice-International Labor Rights Forum.
