GERMANY – Students could enlisted to open and inspect packages at German airports from Temu and Shein, as part of a new initiative proposed by North Rhine-Westphalia’s Finance Minister, Marcus Optendrenk (CDU). Optendrenk has suggested customs officials could rent large halls at airports and hire students during their semester breaks to help unpack and examine parcels arriving from the Far East. This proposal is aimed at cracking down on what Optendrenk sees as unfair competition from Chinese online retailers Temu and Shein.
