LONDON – The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has been criticised for been “tone deaf” following a restructuring of its services and the appointment of new board members. After being accused of conflicts of interest and poor governance, the SBTi recently announced it will separate target validation from standard setting,
The SBTi has incorporated a new company in the UK in a move it claims will “safeguard impartiality.” A fee-charging part which validates corporate targets will be managed by a subsidiary, with standard setting sitting within the new company.
