The EEA estimates textiles account for around 35 per cent of global fluoropolymer demand, and up to 143,000 tonnes of PFAS are used annually in European textile manufacturing. Most of these textiles are imported from Asia, where less stringent regulations on chemical use create additional challenges for Europe’s sustainability goals, the EEA notes.
