LONDON – Polyester has become the subject of a viral Gen Z trend, with the word now being used on social media as an insult for anything considered cheap, fake or low-quality.
The trend has gathered momentum on TikTok in recent weeks, initially through the emergence of so-called “polyester edits” – flashy, fast-moving video montages which users began mocking for appearing formulaic and cheaply produced.
