MILAN – Spanish fashion giant Inditex and technology business Jeanologia have jointly developed the world’s first industrial air system designed to extract microfibres during garment production and thus reduce subsequent shedding in domestic laundering.

The ‘Air Fiber Washer’ was presented at the ongoing ITMA international textile technology fair in Milan. The pre-industrial treatment reduces the release of microfibres in initial washes by up to 60 per cent, it is claimed. Inditex and Jeanologia are making it available to industry on a cost-neutral basis.

The technology is introduced at the stitching stage of production. Asked whether production times will be affected, a spokesperson for the companies told Apparel Insider: “It is a short step that has no particular impact on production times. Air Fiber Washer is a cost-neutral technological solution. The fact it is economically viable is a crucial prerequisite for its implementation in the textile industry.”
