LEICESTER – Workers, trade unions and labour rights campaigners staged a protest in Leicester this weekend over job losses in the city’s garment industry. Leicester is one of the few remaining garment production hubs in the UK. Suppliers and workers have reported a significant drop-off in work coming from fashion brands in recent months.
Fast fashion brand Boohoo is the most significant buyer from Leicester’s garment industry. However, the business has been seeking huge discounts from suppliers as it looks to shore up its balance sheet amid declining sales and a plunging share price.
