SAN FRANCISCO – The long awaited ‘independent’ review into the Higg Index appears to have put the final nail in the coffin of the controversial Higg Materials Sustainability Index (MSI) as a stand-alone tool. However, the review, carried out by consultants KPMG, inexplicably failed to address the issue of Higg product labels and consumer greenwashing.
The review, which was supposed to be published in June, looked at the use of the Higg MSI and Higg Product Module (PM), asking whether they are fit for purpose either as an internal tool or in a business to business (B2B) context.
