MELBOURNE – The Israeli Cotton Board (ICB) has confirmed it is working with Australian brand protection and tech business Security Matters to trial marker and blockchain technology in Israel’s cotton supply chains. Security Matters (SMX) has developed a chemical marker and blockchain authentication platform which has applications in a number of sectors.

The company says its Fashion Sustainable Competence Centre is working closely with the ICB, the farmer-owned producer cooperative that represents all cotton farmers in the country.

Cotton is sown in the Northern District and Southern District of Israel between March and April, and harvested between September and October. The overall cotton area in Israel is relatively small, however, only ELS cotton is produced. Plots devoted to cotton range in size from 20-350 hectares.
