WASHINGTON – The International Labour Rights Forum has published a list of apparel brands which, it claims, are sourcing from Bangladesh ready-made garment factories which earlier this year pressed trumped-up criminal charges against workers. Among them are C&A (three factories), Zara (7), H&M (6), Mango (5), M&S (3), Next (6) and Primark (3). The charges relate to protests which took place at the turn of the year following the introduction in the country of a new minimum wage of 8,000Tk (US$95) per month for Bangladesh’s garment workers. In response to the protests, the Bangladeshi authorities implemented what several NGOs claim was the largest crackdown on workers’ rights for two decades.
