LONDON – Evidence of organic cotton fraud has been found in India following an investigation by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) which claims to have uncovered 20,000 metric tons of fake organic cotton. The cotton standard claims it has gathered substantial documentary evidence of systematic fraud and abuse of the Indian government’s certification system of organic cotton production following surveillance audits by GOTS accreditation body IOAS, which is part of the GOTS quality assurance.
