BREMEN – GMO content was found to be present in organic cotton products in a two-year EU funded project looking at blockchain and DNA testing prospects for cotton. The use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is prohibited in organic products, however, the risks of cross-contamination of organic by GM cotton can arise from several sources, including cross-pollination, and by mixing during storage, transport, ginning and further processing.
