WASHINGTON – The International Labour Organisation is being urged to pass a resolution condemning China’s violation of its convention obligations with respect to its treatment of the Uyghur Muslim population in Xinjiang. The Uyghur Human Rights Project, Uyghur American Association, and World Uyghur Congress have sent a letter to ILO director general Guy Ryder, to speak out on the issue.
The ILO was absent from the 180-strong coalition of civility society organisations and trade unions which earlier this year called on global apparel brands to give a 12-month timeframe to fully extract their supply chains from Xinjiang.
