LONDON – The dominant business model in the global apparel industry is at the heart of low and declining labour standards in supply chains, claims a new report. The authors argue that CSR attempts to improve worker welfare in supply chains in the likes of Bangladesh and Cambodia are simply papering over the cracks, and face an impossible task in the wake of sourcing practices which ultimately place huge downward pressure on unit prices and wages.
