LONDON – Brazilian cotton used in the clothing of Zara and H&M has been linked to illegal deforestation, land grabbing and violence. All the tainted cotton traced was certified as sustainable by Better Cotton (BC) according to a report by UK investigative NGO Earthsight. The NGO claims Brazil’s Lush Cerrado region is being plundered ‘to spare the Amazon’ as Brazil grows into global cotton giant.
