MADRID – Recycled cotton producer Recover has partnered with Turkish manufacturer Ünteks Group to develop a range of knitted garments for fashion applications.
The collection will combine Recover’s recycled cotton fibre with Ünteks’ vertically integrated knitting, dyeing, printing and garment manufacturing operations.
Initial fabric constructions include single jersey, fleece, interlock, terry, 2×1 rib and pique, with further options planned as the range expands. Each fabric will contain at least 20 per cent Recover recycled cotton.
Ünteks has capacity to produce up to 1,500 tonnes of fabric and one million garments a month. Recover said the manufacturer’s integrated production model would help deliver consistent quality and faster lead times for international brands.
The say the collection is for everyday products produced at commercial scale, including T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies. Ünteks’ manufacturing base in Turkey also places production close to the European market.
“One of the key strengths of Ünteks is their ability to take circular knit fabrics through to finished garments with a high level of consistency,” said Recover chief commercial officer Matthew Neville.
“That makes them a strong partner for our collection, where the focus is on translating recycled cotton into everyday products that brands can rely on at scale.”
Ünteks chief executive Hakan Kılıç said the partners had worked to adjust each stage of production to account for variations that can affect recycled cotton fabrics.
“A big part of our work with Recover has been adjusting and refining each step so the material runs consistently, from knitting through to the finished garment,” he said.
Recover, which is backed by STORY3 Capital and Goldman Sachs, is expanding production of recycled cotton fibres and blends for fashion brands and retailers. Ünteks has more than 30 years of textile manufacturing experience and operates an integrated production network in Turkey.
