Textile Exchange publishes landmark polyester LCA

TEXAS – Textile Exchange has published a landmark life cycle assessment (LCA) for polyester, the world’s most widely used fibre. The 306-page study, prepared with SCS Consulting Services, offers the first publicly available dataset for virgin PET chip, melt and staple fibre production in Southeast Asia.

Polyester makes up 57 per cent of global fibre production, and yet solid public data on how it’s actually made in Asia – where most polyester is manufactured – has been thin on the ground.
