STUTTGART – The non-profit behind the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) has launched a public consultation for a new standard for non-organic fibres. The Global Responsible Textile Standard (GRTS) is designed to offer textile companies a unified certification framework to assess the environmental and social performance across a broader range of fibre types.
The GRTS will apply to a wide range of fibre types, including certified organic or organic-in-conversion fibres (below 70 per cent of total content), natural plant and animal fibres, regenerated cellulosic fibres, recycled natural and synthetic fibres, and biopolymers.
It also permits a very limited content of virgin synthetic fibres (specifically polyamide, polypropylene, elastomultiester (elasterell-p), and polyurethane (elastane)) provided they are essential to the functionality of the final consumer product.
