Shein faces parliamentary scrutiny over supply chain transparency

LONDON – A Shein representative avoided directly answering a British parliamentary committee’s inquiries on Tuesday regarding whether the fast-fashion retailer sources cotton from China or its Xinjiang province—a region at the centre of concerns for investors scrutinising the company’s supply chain practices.

During the session, Yinan Zhu, Shein’s general counsel for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), repeatedly refrained from clarifying the issue, prompting the committee chair, Liam Byrne, to describe her responses as “bordering on contempt.”
