WASHINGTON – Brands such as Patagonia, Nike and Eileen Fisher, which have ongoing supply chain ties with the Uyghur region of China (XUAR), are ‘complicit’ in human rights atrocities among Uyghurs and other Muslim people of Xinjiang. This is the bombshell claim of a new, 180-strong coalition of civility society organisations and trade unions which are calling on global apparel brands to give a 12-month timeframe to fully extract their supply chains from XUAR.
The coalition members claim, “there is now no way for [brands] to verify that workplaces are free of forced labour” and that by continuing to maintain supply chain links with XUAR brands are “complicit in the Chinese government’s human rights abuses.
