NEW YORK – The latest textile export figures for Xinjiang highlight the huge challenge brands and retailers face in divesting sourcing out of the province, which has major links with slave labour. Customs data shared by consultants Jernigan Global show direct textile exports from Xinjiang in the first seven months, January-July, reached 2.628 billion RMB, or US$375.42m USD – just a 0.72 per cent decline from a year ago. When one factors in the likely impact of the coronavirus pandemic, these are remarkably solid figures.
Apparel exports from Xinjiang hit 9.459 billion RMB, US$1.351bn, down 14.3 per cent from year ago.
