AMSTERDAM – Clothing factories and their buyers left garment workers to fend for themselves after the major earthquake that hit Türkiye in February 2023, new research claims. As most workers were not paid in full in the aftermath of the earthquake, they had to return to their jobs out of financial necessity – before factories had undergone structural safety inspections, it is claimed.
