HELSINKI – Global synthetic fibre production could have been almost half its current level without the rise of fast fashion. This is according to new research which used computer modelling to examine how the textile industry might otherwise have developed.
Researchers estimate that synthetic fibre production in 2021 could have been 47 per cent lower without the growth associated with fast fashion. For man made cellulosic fibres such as viscose, production could have been 45 per cent lower.
