AMSTERDAM – Covid-19 is casting a spotlight on over-consumption, claims the fifth annual edition of Fashion Revolution’s Transparency Index. The report raises the thorny question of what will happen to the billions of dollars’ worth of clothing which has been cancelled by the world’s leading brands in recent weeks. “… dozens of brands have stopped taking deliveries while clothing is piling up in warehouses during the lockdown,” says the report. “We wonder what will happen to all of these clothes considering that our research shows only 27 per cent of brands publish information about the steps they are taking to reduce the amount of waste created before clothes hit the shelves.”
The report reviews 250 global brands and retailers and ranks them according to how much they disclose about their social and environmental impacts, with a focus on transparency.
