NEW YORK – Uyghur rights and advocacy groups staged a demonstration on the first night of New York Fashion Week, claiming the global fashion industry profits from Uyghur forced labour. The rights groups suggest apparel brands source millions of tons of cotton and yarn from the Uyghur Region, and estimate 1-in-5 cotton garments sold globally contain cotton and/or yarn from the Uyghur Region.
Uyghur rights groups and allies staged a catwalk with activist models wearing white cotton t-shirts and bound by red ribbon.
