WASHINGTON – The US is to block the import of entire Xinjiang supply chains involving cotton, yarn and textile products over forced labour allegations. The move has been confirmed by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials, which will make a formal announcement later this week. It relates to ongoing human rights violations against the Uyghur population in Xinjiang.

In addition to cotton and textile products, the ban will also include tomatoes. The move has huge significance for textile and apparel supply chains, with brands already under growing international pressure to rid their supply chains of cotton and apparel products with Xinjiang links.
