LONDON – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has urged the United Kingdom to thoroughly investigate the fast-fashion company SHEIN for human rights abuses and exploitation of trade loopholes before allowing it to list on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
In a letter addressed to UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt and Financial Conduct Authority CEO Nikhil Rathi, Senator Rubio emphasised the risks posed by SHEIN’S practices to businesses and investors. He referenced previous concerns raised when SHEIN attempted to list in New York, which were thwarted due to allegations of unethical practices, including the use of slave labour and circumvention of trade regulations.
