WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has signed an Executive Order eliminating duty-free de minimis treatment for low-value imports from China. The move will see goods previously exempt from tariffs now subject to significant duties. Starting 2 May 2025, packages valued at US$800 or less, which were previously allowed into the United States duty-free, will face new charges. Items sent through the international postal network will be taxed at either 30 per cent of their value or US$25 per item, rising to US$50 after 1 June.
