Unions say Bangladesh worker protections still fall short

DHAKA – Bangladesh has made some progress under the ILO’s roadmap, but unions say factory conditions remain far behind the reforms promised.

The warning comes despite Bangladesh ratifying three ILO conventions in 2025, including Convention 155 on occupational safety and health, Convention 187 on safety frameworks and Convention 190 on violence and harassment. The move made Bangladesh the first country in South Asia to ratify all three.
