BERLIN – German retailers Hugo Boss, Otto Group, Tchibo and KiK are working on a project to improve labour and human rights standards in textile mills in Tamil Nadu. The Indian state, a major sourcing hub for fashion brands, has been the subject of repeated labour rights violations, including forced labour and child labour, over recent years.
The German Partnership for Sustainable Textiles (“Textilbündnis”) last year launched the Tamil Nadu Partnership Initiative. The focus of the second phase of the project is on around 40 spinning mills in the four districts of Coimbatore, Dindigul, Erode and Tiruppur.
