LONDON – A new report claims fashion retailers’ green credentials are meaningless without better supply chain engagement. The ‘Following the Thread’ report from Planet Tracker draws on analysis from 3,900 companies across the textile supply chain. It argues that fashion retailers need to be more actively supporting suppliers and manufacturers to cut emissions.
Planet Tracker has also created a new interactive dashboard to help investors better understand the textile value chain. This shows that a significant mismatch exists between financial value and emissions in the textiles industry. For instance, fabric manufacturers and producers are responsible for 76 per cent of textile’s impact on climate, but only 7 per cent of its market capitalisation.
