LONDON – A ground-breaking study has confirmed that microplastics are accumulating in the human brain, raising concerns about the long-term impact of synthetic materials on neurological health. Researchers have found these tiny plastic particles, including those derived from materials commonly used in fashion such as polyester and nylon, are present in brain tissue, with higher concentrations observed in more recent samples.
Could there be a link here between the escalation of fast fashion? The paper notes: “the time of death (2016 versus 2024) was a significant factor, with increasing MNP concentrations over time in both liver and brain samples (P = 0.01).
