BANGALORE – India’s largest garment exporter, Shahi Exports, claims it will pay all wage arrears owed to garment workers in full by May 2022. Its statement follows reports that it owes more than US$10m to garment workers in the Indian garment production hub of Karnataka after failing honour several rises in the minimum wage implemented since April 2020.

In total, more than 400,000 garment workers at factories supplying the likes of fashion brands such as Nike, Zara, Tesco, C&A, Gap, Marks & Spencer and H&M, are said to have lost out on almost US$60m in unpaid wages.
