LONDON – Almost half of clothing listed by leading UK fast fashion brands was made using virgin plastic, new research found. The Royal Society for Arts analysed 10,000 clothing items being sold online by Asos, Boohoo, Missguided and PrettyLittleThing. They found fast fashion is awash with new plastics, with as much as 88 per cent of recently listed items containing new plastics on some websites.

In terms of the proportion of clothing entirely made from new plastics, researchers found the figure for Asos was 36 per cent while for Boohoo it was 60 per cent. For Missguided and PrettyLittleThinhg the figure was 42 and 57 per cent respectively.
