BERLIN – The German Partnership for Sustainable Textiles (Textilbuendis) has announced a new strategic cooperation with the Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA) with the aim of promoting the availability of organic cotton and improving the “alignment of supply and demand.”
Textilbuendis claims the new partnership should facilitate the procurement of organic cotton for brands, retailers and suppliers. Through the collaboration Textilbuendis will support members who wish to establish direct relationships with organic cotton farmers through the OCA platform and provide those farmers with targeted support.
The initiative – one of dozens thrown at the organic cotton sector over the past two decades, not one of which appears to have had any impact – will focus on knowledge building among brands and retailers, sharing of resources and capacity building for small-scale farmers, and jointly developing supporting tools for brands and retailers to “provide relevant information for sustainable sourcing.”
