SAN FRANCISCO – The credibility of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition us under serious threat due to the conduct of several of its leading members which continue to refuse to honour contracts with suppliers. As Covid-19 wreaks havoc across apparel supply chains, the industry is becoming increasingly polarised on the issue of purchasing practices – most notably, which brands are agreeing to honour cancelled orders to ensure suppliers are not left out of pocket.
Our own research found that a sizeable number of SAC members are refusing to honour contracts, a move which is seriously harming suppliers – and ultimately their workers. Such poor purchasing practices go directly against the SAC’s very own wording, which states that, “as we face the coronavirus pandemic, the SAC is dedicated to helping the apparel, footwear, and textile industry protect the people hit hardest.”
