HONG KONG – Sacked employees of apparel supply chain giant Li & Fung claim the company has not followed employment laws when terminating staff. As part of its restructuring, the Hong Kong business, which acts for retailers such as Walmart, has been shedding huge swathes of employees globally, although precise numbers remain unclear – some media reports suggest more than 20,000 staff will go but the business says this is massively exaggerated.
Sacked employees have taken to social media to claim they are owed several months’ salary as part of their termination agreements but have only been given 30 days.
