SAN FRANCISCO – Levi Strauss says it will shift sourcing away from China and – potentially – Mexico in the wake of new rounds of tariffs announced on imports from the two countries by the US. President Trump last week threatened to impose across-the-board 5 per cent tariffs on Mexico if it doesn’t crack down on the flow of migrants into the US, and that tariffs would increase by 5 per cent each month until they reached 25 per cent. The US government also continues to increase tariffs on goods imported from China, recently expanding the tariffs to include apparel imports.
