COPENHAGEN – UK fashion icon Katharine Hamnett has slammed the number of fashion and textile trade fairs and conferences which see people flying around the world to access information which – she claims – could quite easily be shared over webinars. “I’m sorry folks, we shouldn’t be here … these conferences should be happening as webinars,” she told delegates at the 800-strong Copenhagen Fashion Summit last week in an awkward moment for conference organisers and their on-stage facilitator, Business of Fashion’s Tim Blanks. “There is no reason for us here. If you look at the meat of this conference, it could be something you watch at home without travelling. We should all be ashamed of our carbon footprint.”
