BERLIN – German Ministers have announced that new laws on due diligence in global supply chains will be passed before the country’s elections in autumn 2021. The laws will incorporate the provisions of the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises into German domestic legislation.
The laws will have significant implications for Germany headquartered apparel retailers as they will place legal obligations on them to ensure human rights and related environmental standards are observed in supply chains. However, the criteria to be used to assess business supply chains on these issues is not yet clear.
