Gap, Target and Houdini back Syre’s recycling venture

NORTH CAROLINA – US-based recycling start-up Syre has announced strategic partnerships with Gap Inc., Houdini Sportswear and Target. The move is part of efforts to scale its textile-to-textile recycling model for polyester. The companies will act as launch partners for Syre’s first commercial-scale operations, which are intended to produce circular polyester from post-consumer textiles.

Syre’s model is pitched as an alternative to bottle-derived recycled polyester, with the company claiming up to 85 per cent lower emissions than virgin, oil-based polyester production.
