BONN – A fish mouth inspired filter removed more than 99 per cent of microplastic fibres from washing machine wastewater in early tests.
Researchers at the University of Bonn and Germany’s Fraunhofer UMSICHT said the prototype is designed to avoid one of the main weaknesses of existing add on filters, which can clog quickly or miss a significant share of fibres.
