WASHINGTON – The Cotton Campaign has called on Uzbekistan to strengthen its reforms in order to address structural issues that contribute to ongoing forced labour risks in cotton production. These measures, the organisation stated, are essential to ensuring that the country’s emerging textile industry can meet international labour standards and attract responsible sourcing by global brands.
The appeal coincided with the release of a new report by the Uzbek Forum for Human Rights, the Cotton Campaign’s frontline partner, which presented findings from independent civil society monitoring of the 2024 cotton harvest in Uzbekistan.
