LONDON – The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has announced fashion will be the first consumer sector it focuses on as it investigates and clamps down on consumer greenwashing in 2022. The CMA last year put several sectors on standby for further investigation after it published a new Green Claims Code which warned businesses to comply with consumer law or risk action. Apparel Insider understands the CMA has now chosen fashion as its first focus given the growing interest among UK consumers in sustainable clothing.
