DRESDEN – New research claims some garment industry workers in Romania earn just 14 per cent of a living wage. The research also suggests the country’s garment sector, which encompasses 10,000 factories and supplies many leading Western brands, is suffering from major labour shortages due to chronically low wages and poor working conditions. The main export markets for clothing from Romania are Italy, the UK, Spain, France, Germany, and Belgium. Brands found during the investigations range from discounters and fast fashion companies to high-end luxury brands, including Armani, Aldi, Asos, Benetton, C&A, Dolce Gabbana, Esprit, H&M, Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, Levi Strauss, Next, Marks & Spencer, Primark, and Zara.
