EU weakens green rules to “boost competitiveness”

BRUSSELS – The European Council has agreed a position on controversial plans to scale back key EU sustainability laws after extensive lobbying from industry groups. The move, which forms part of the Commission’s ‘Omnibus I’ simplification package, involves revisions to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) in what Brussels claims is a bid to cut red tape and support business competitiveness.
